My second trip out to the Tidal Basin was much more successful, conventionally speaking. The trees were in full bloom, palest pink fluff everywhere you looked, bright, full sunshine. Tourists snapping pics everywhere you looked, runners looking frustrated, picnics being set up. It was pretty much just as I had it imagined it should be. It was also a bonus that I was out there with some friends from Okinawa – seeing them for the first time in at least a year or two. Lunch afterward at Oyumel was an extra perk.
Even though the second trip was a more traditional cherry blossom viewing experience, I’m not so sure I don’t prefer the photos and the experience of the first attempt. Cold though it was, buds though they were. All it was missing was a post-photowalk lunch date!
